Thursday night in overtime, Matt Duchene scored to give the Dallas Stars a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.
Duchene scored his sixth game-winning goal in the NHL mere seconds after Elias Pettersson was denied a two-on-one opportunity by Dallas goaltender Scott Wedgewood.
As soon as Vancouver changed all three skaters, Thomas Harley assisted Duchene with a stretch pass; he scored in the third period to force overtime. In addition to Seguin and Hintz, Tyler, Wedgewood compiled a record-setting 17 saves.
By sliding the puck between Thatcher Demko’s padding, Duchene contributed to Dallas’ second consecutive three-game winning streak. Assisting Duchene on the other game-winning goal was Harley.
“Wedge finishes a two-on-zero against one of the league’s hottest performers. “When you enter a 2-on-0 situation, you’re essentially deciding whether to go to the bench or the room,” Duchene explained. “He made an unbelievable save.” “Clearly, Harls scored a crucial goal to tie the game up; that pass on the breakaway was excellent.”
Brock Boeser added a goal and an assist to Conor Garland and Dakota Joshua’s figures of one each. The Canucks are 6-0-2 in their previous eight contests and have tied the league-leading 47 points with 47 games remaining.
Demko, who led the NHL in victories with sixteen, blocked thirty-two shots in his initial defeat to Dallas (7-0).
Vancouver extended its lead to 3-2 with 4:56 remaining in regulation time on Garland’s season-high third goal. But Dallas responded with Harley’s ninth goal just 1:26 later.
“We had opportunities in overtime with a two-on-zero advantage,” said Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet. The lead is yours with three minutes remaining. Men are disturbed by it. “It is acceptable to feel upset; however, remaining composed will help us continue our march.”
