A firearms company has relocated its headquarters to Tennessee, away from its previous location in Massachusetts

Smith & Wesson, a gun manufacturer, uprooted its corporate headquarters and moved it to Tennessee, abandoning the state of Massachusetts in search of greener pastures.

Smith & Wesson, which was established in Connecticut in 1852 and then relocated to Massachusetts, made its shift to Maryville, Tennessee, the location of its new 650,000-square-foot headquarters, official over the weekend. Smith & Wesson’s previous headquarters were located in Massachusetts.

CEO Mark Smith noted that cooperating with local leaders helped make the transfer “seamless,” while also praising Tennessee’s firearms regulations as a contributing factor in the migration to the Volunteer State. Smith made these statements after the company relocated to Tennessee.

Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, was present at the ceremony marking the move of the company and stated that the citizens of the state “are pleased to officially welcome Smith & Wesson to Maryville.” She went on to say that the relocation of the manufacturing to the state of Tennessee is “a testament to our pro-business policies,” and that the new facility will “bolster our economic development and exceptionally skilled workforce.”

The National Rifle Association has also lauded the relocation of Smith & Wesson, with the organization’s executive director of advancement, Tyler Schropp, calling the move as “a testament to their enduring legacy, their commitment to firearm excellence.” Smith & Wesson’s new home is located in Springfield, Massachusetts.
