In his playoff debut, Royce Lewis is beginning to become a Minnesota Twins legend.
The Twins, who will host the AL Wild Card series against the Toronto Blue Jays beginning with Game 1 on Tuesday, had lost their previous 18 postseason games. This was altered by the novice Lewis’s legendary debut.
Lewis launched a two-run home run in his first at-bat, scoring Edouard Julien. This alone was incredibly sly of him.
In his second at-bat, however, he displayed the potential to become the next Mr. October by hitting a solo home run.
Lewis drove in all three runs for the Twins on the day, going 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and a walk. This helped propel Minnesota to a 3-1 victory, ending the franchise’s postseason futility streak and positioning them to advance to the ALDS.

Lewis, the first overall selection in the 2017 MLB Draft, exploded in his playoff debut on Tuesday, despite having played in only 70 major league games prior to that date. In addition, he placed the Twins in a strong position to advance in the playoffs by winning Game 1 of the three-game series against Toronto.
Knocking around a multi-time All-Star like Kevin Gausman to propel a club that hasn’t won a postseason game in nearly two decades is a fantastic way to begin a postseason career. And this may only be the start for Royce Lewis.
