Blake Griffin’s Potential Return to the Boston Celtics Generates Buzz and Optimism

The Boston Celtics, known for their rich history and dedicated fan base, have at least one roster spot open as they prepare for the 2023-24 NBA season. While the team could proceed with 14 full-time players, a recent analysis by Bleacher Report’s Adam Fromal highlights why the Celtics could be the ideal landing spot for six-time All-Star Blake Griffin.

Fromal expressed his views in an article on October 13, stating, “If Blake Griffin chooses to continue his NBA career rather than hanging up the sneakers, the 34-year-old would be hard-pressed to find a better landing spot than a return to the Boston Celtics.” He emphasized that Griffin, once known for his gravity-defying athleticism, may now provide more value as a locker room presence and a veteran mentor, especially considering the current state of the Celtics.

The Celtics’ interest in Griffin is underscored by the recent trade that sent Robert Williams III to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Jrue Holiday. Griffin, during his lone season with the Celtics, had garnered respect and appreciation from the team’s management and players. However, as of now, Griffin has not made a final decision about his NBA future.

The possibility of Griffin returning to the team later in the season remains on the table, but the situation remains uncertain until an official announcement is made.

In a September 30 story, Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe revealed insights from Brad Stevens, explaining why Griffin did not re-sign with the Celtics during the 2023 offseason. Stevens acknowledged the Celtics’ interest in bringing Griffin back for another season and expressed his admiration for the former All-Star. Stevens stated that if Griffin decides to continue playing and wants to return to the Eastern Conference, the Celtics would welcome him with open arms.

Blake Griffin, at 34 years old, is not necessarily considered too old to compete in the NBA. While he may not be the player he was during his prime, he demonstrated that he still possesses the skills to contribute meaningfully. The decision about his return to the Celtics may be contingent on how the season unfolds for both the player and the team.

Although Griffin has yet to re-sign with the Celtics, he had glowing words about his time in Boston during an interview with Barstool Sports’ Dan Rappoport on “Fore Play Golf.” Griffin praised Boston, highlighting the incredible fans and the team’s championship-focused approach. He also spoke highly of the Celtics’ players, particularly Jayson Tatum, acknowledging Tatum’s humility and approachability.

Even with Griffin’s decision not to immediately return to Boston, it’s evident that there is no animosity or ill will between him and the Celtics. The potential for his comeback has sparked anticipation and optimism among both the team and its devoted fans.
