Boston, MA – To commemorate World Mental Health Day on October 10th, Bluebikes, Boston’s public city bike system, is providing free bike rides for the day, generously sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
Launched in 2011, Bluebikes is a shared bike system jointly owned and managed by several municipalities in greater Boston, including Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Everett, and Somerville. It operates in ten municipalities across the region.
Bluebikes is aptly named after its title sponsor, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, a nonprofit, state-licensed private health insurance company. In an effort to promote mental health and well-being, Bluebikes is offering free bike rides on World Mental Health Day, encouraging people to engage in physical activity and outdoor exploration to help clear their minds.
On their website, Bluebikes noted that research consistently demonstrates the positive impact of exercise on mental health. They view World Mental Health Day as a perfect opportunity for people to get outside, take a bike ride, and reduce anxiety and stress.
The initiative underscores Bluebikes’ commitment to supporting mental health in their communities and aims to raise awareness about the mental health benefits of physical activity. This promotion hopes to encourage those who may not be regular users of city bikes to give it a try and discover a new hobby or mode of transportation.
