Cher had previously refuted accusations that her son had been “kidnapped,” stating to PEOPLE that the rumors were “not true.”
Son Elijah Blue Allman is a subject of conservatorship, as alleged by Cher, on account of his recent substance misuse problems.
The 77-year-old performer and actress, as per documents obtained by PEOPLE from Los Angeles Superior Court, is reportedly petitioning for sole conservatorship of her son’s estate on the grounds that he is “significantly incapable of managing his financial resources.”
According to the document, a conservator is “urgently needed… to protect Elijah’s property from loss or injury” because he is “currently unable to manage his assets due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues,” despite the fact that he is scheduled to receive assets from trust before the end of the year. Additionally, the document asserts that his estranged spouse, Marieangela King, is unsuitable to serve as his conservator due to “a recurring pattern of substance abuse and psychological breakdowns that has characterized their turbulent relationship.”
According to the filing, “Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Trust, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, [Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk.”

The filing concludes with the claim that the Moonstruck actress “has laboriously attempted to enroll Elijah in treatment and procure the necessary assistance.”
“[Cher] harbors deep affection for Elijah and has consistently guided her actions towards his best interests,” the filing continues, adding that due to his “current mental and physical health issues,” she has been “unable to discuss his preferences regarding the appointment of a temporary conservator.”
A representative for Cher did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment immediately. At this time, the hearing for a temporary order is slated for January 5, 2024, while the permanent order hearing is scheduled for March 6, 2024.
Cher addressed the public in October regarding her relationship with her 47-year-old son Elijah, following a report that she allegedly hired four men to forcibly remove him from a hotel room in New York City in November 2022 during an apparent intervention. Cher broke her silence on Elijah’s ordeal and discussed the matter with PEOPLE in October. Earlier this month, divorce papers that King filed in December contained the aforementioned claim.
