Following an abbreviated 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live resumed its 2023-24 run a little later than usual.
The writers strike had an impact on both the conclusion of the previous season and the commencement of season 49. The labor dispute concluded on September 25, which resulted in Saturday Night Live (SNL) debuting in mid-October, hosted by former cast member Pete Davidson, as opposed to its customary premiere in late September or early October. (As a result of being exempt from the SAG-AFTRA contract under which the actors are presently on strike, the cast is able to perform without having to traverse picket lines.)
James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman were promoted from featured to repertory actors, contributing to the show’s intact cast from the previous season. Chloe Troast was appointed in the role of a featured actor.
The Hollywood Reporter has updated its list of SNL presenters and musical guests for season 49, which is detailed below.
On December 16, it was disclosed that the sketch comedy show’s inaugural episode would be hosted by Jacob Elordi in 2024, featuring musical guest Reneé Rapp.
It was announced on November 29 that alum Kate McKinnon would make her first-time return to the program as a host for the final show before the holiday break on December 16, featuring musical guest Billie Eilish. Emma Stone presided over the December 2 program for the fifth time, featuring musical guest Noah Kahan. Adam Driver, meanwhile, served as presenter for the fourth time on December 9, accompanied by musical guest Olivia Rodrigo.
