In a recent study, 88 overweight or obese women were divided into two groups at random by a team of researchers at the University of Medical Sciences in Iran. Members of the cumin group lost 13 pounds more overall than those in the non-cumin group at the conclusion of the three-month trial. More impressively, the participants in the cumin group reduced their body fat percentage by 14.64%—nearly three times the 4.91% loss recorded by the control group—apparently because the fat-burning spice was added. The cumin group did, however, make additional gains. They had lower blood levels of dangerous lipids, such as triglycerides. The participants in the cumin group experienced an average reduction in bad (LDL) cholesterol of roughly 10 points. Only 5 points were earned by the control group in that category.
