Here, great recognizes great. Deion Sanders may be the finest cornerback in the history of the NFL, but his current focus is on rebuilding the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder. The Buffaloes began conference play with back-to-back losses, but few believed they would have a chance against Oregon in Autzen and USC at home. If not for Caleb Williams, perhaps CU could have won this match.
In the Trojans’ narrow road victory at Folsom, Williams completed 30 of 40 passes for 403 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception. Colorado lost 48-41, but Shedeur Sanders, the starting quarterback and son of Sanders, surely held his own in this game. He completed 30 passes out of 45 attempts for 371 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Williams has unquestionably set the benchmark.
Sanders told the college football media after the game that Williams “is an absolute baller” and that he enjoyed competing against Lincoln Riley’s squad. That was enjoyable for me.
Colorado could return to the win column when they travel to Arizona State next week.
USC can already qualify for a bowl game with a victory over Arizona at home next Saturday night.
Deion Sanders praises Caleb Williams following Colorado’s loss to USC.
This was one of the stronger contests of Week 5. While it was not surprising that Alex Grinch’s USC defense once again wet the bed, no one expected Colorado to perform up to USC’s level in this game. Colorado may have remade its roster prior to Sanders’ first season as head coach, but USC is unquestionably the best Pac-12 team. Colorado may not be in the top half at this time.
