Due to back surgery, Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer will miss the opening of the 2024 season

Due to an injury, one of the Texas Rangers’ top pitchers will miss a significant portion of the 2024 campaign.

Chris Young, general manager of the Rangers, disclosed that Scherzer underwent back surgery on Thursday to repair a herniated disc.

Scherzer, who was diagnosed with a herniated disk, stated in a statement released by the organization on Friday that the back pain worsened after he returned to his Florida offseason residence.

“After several conservative treatments and consulting with multiple specialists, I made the decision to have the recommended surgery,” Scherzer explained. “By completing this procedure immediately, I will have the greatest opportunity to pitch frequently for the Rangers in 2024. “I eagerly anticipate completing my rehabilitation and returning to the mound the following summer.”

His absence is anticipated to last until June or July.

Scherzer was obtained by the Rangers from the New York Mets during the 2023 season trade deadline.

He went 4-2 in eight regular season appearances for the Rangers as a pitcher prior to being placed on the injured list with a shoulder injury.

Three games into the postseason, the 39-year-old pitcher labored in his hurling duties.

A back ailment forced him to leave Game 3 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks after only three innings.
