According to a four-page cease-and-desist letter that was sent out on Thursday by Lawyers for Civil Rights, three black vendors who sell their wares from pushcarts in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace are alleging that the property management firm at the historic market area has treated them unfairly and has engaged in misleading and discriminatory behaviour.
The letter was written on behalf of Guangyi Xiang, Xin Claire Li, and Fuad Mukarker, who run pushcarts at the marketplace, which is located next to Faneuil Hall, a historic location in Boston that is also known as the Cradle of Liberty. The pushcarts sell Asian-inspired souvenirs, plush toys, handmade art, and wooden religious artefacts. The attorneys who wrote the letter sent it on their clients’ behalf.
“We feel hopeless and helpless,” said Li, 53, who moved her family to Boston from Canada after receiving an offer to set up shop at the marketplace a year ago. Li was one of the vendors who was invited to participate in the event.
