An investigation has been opened by state and local police following a gunshot that took place in Chelsea over the weekend and resulted in the death of a man who was 23 years old.
Officers from the Chelsea Police Department were dispatched to the area of Congress Avenue and Shurtleff Street on Sunday night in response to a missing person report regarding Santos David Canizales, age 23, from Chelsea.
According to the Michigan State Police spokesperson Dave Procopio, the ShotSpotter was activated, which led to many 911 calls, which led to the discovery of Canizales on the ground and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
After being taken to the emergency room at Mass General Hospital in Boston, the victim, who was 23 years old, was pronounced dead there.
According to the authorities, an investigation is currently being conducted that is including numerous sections of the state police, the Chelsea Police Department, and the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.
“Once again we’re looking at a young life cut short and a family forced to live with eternal grief,” said Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden in a statement. “All due to illegal guns that were too easily obtained and too willingly used,” “We are making every effort to determine who is responsible for this tragedy and bring them to justice,” the spokesperson said.
