Isaiah 58:7 Mission Pantry, a charity food pantry based in Dallas County, has placed shelves inside Mallory Elementary School in Buffalo. These shelves provide children with convenient access to a variety of supplies, including food, hygiene products, and even some clothing items.
Donna Goeser was instrumental in the establishment of the charitable organization. Since a long time ago, she stated that they have recognized the need for shelving in the schools located in Buffalo.
“There are a lot of children everywhere, and you are aware that they are continually requesting food. You may also see them at the supermarket, but the schools are where you are most likely to find them. It can be challenging for teachers to fulfill their responsibilities when they are required to purchase school supplies and are also responsible for doing so. The teachers, on the other hand, are obligated to recognize and recognize when the students are in need of some nourishment. As a result of the fact that children are approaching them and expressing their hunger, we realized that there was a requirement for this,” Goeser explained. It is also for the purpose of assisting the teachers, so that they do not feel the strain of having to do it. They do it with a pure joy in their hearts, but the reason is to assist in getting the children going and to provide them with a good start to the day by providing them with that food. People are able to preserve their health and feel better about themselves when they are aware that they have food security.
According to Goeser, she is currently working on growing her business into the other schools that are part of the Buffalo School District.
It was just recently that we were given permission to enter the preschool and install shelving there, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it. Additionally, we are in the process of working with the principal at the high school level. They do have a very wonderful program there, where they offer goods for personal hygiene and meals, but in order to go there, you need to be accompanied by a teacher, according to Goeser. “Our goal is to create it such that there is greater room for individual choice. Everyone does not need to be aware of what they are doing, and there is no need for humiliation. They can simply come up, grab what they need, and leave, which is why we are extremely happy to be able to get into all of the schools.
As per the data provided by the United States Census Bureau, the overall poverty rate in the municipality is approximately forty percent. Goeser stated that she recognizes this requirement at Mallory Elementary School due to the fact that certain pupils have restricted access to essentials.
At Mallory Elementary School, Twyla Abraham serves as the school counselor for students in grades 5 and 6. In addition to the fact that she works with pupils on a daily basis, she considers this to be an absolute requirement.
“It is easier for them to just get it because everybody is doing it, and so it is something that is peer pressure in a really good way so that they can pick up what they need and not feel like everyone is looking at them,” Abraham said. “It is something that is a really fantastic way for them to get what they need.”
It is constantly necessary to have donations for the shelves and other projects that they are working on, according to Goeser.
