Japan relaxes COVID-19 regulations, yet many people still conceal

On Monday, many Japanese people chose to continue wearing masks in many public places and on their daily commute in response to the government loosening COVID-19 rules.

The requirements for wearing masks were loosened starting on Monday.

Although the government of Japan never officially mandated mask use during the COVID-19 pandemic, it did so during the virus’s peak indoors while indicating that it was better to leave protection at home.

Yet, the majority of people in Japan habitually wore the mask both inside and outside. The Japanese government gave businesses the option of requiring that customers wear masks.

First time since being raised to the role, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida showed up to work on Monday morning sans a mask.

I anticipate wearing a mask less frequently in the future, he predicted.

He advised citizens to keep using masks when going to nursing homes and other locations where there are persons who are highly susceptible to COVID-19.
