Jimmy Johnson reflects on his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys and his connection to Jerry Jones.

Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson will be formally honored with an induction into the organization’s Ring of Honor on December 30, 30th, during a Cowboys game against the Detroit Lions.

Mike Doocy of FOX 4 interviewed Johnson, who is now an NFL contributor for FOX, to discuss the honor, his tenure with the Cowboys, and his relationship with owner Jerry Jones.

During the 1990s, Jimmy Johnson guided the Dallas Cowboys to consecutive Super Bowl victories.

The Hall of Fame coach says his time in Dallas is filled with fond recollections.

“That occasion held a special place in my heart,” Johnson remarked.

The success was not instantaneous.

In 1989, under Johnson’s leadership, the Cowboys completed the league with a 1-15 record, the worst record in the league.

Johnson asserts that the sluggish start enhanced the significance of the triumph.

“I think you’re most proud of your accomplishments when you start from the bottom,” he commented. “We went through some rough times.”

A few years later, in 1992, Johnson led the team to its first Super Bowl victory. The Cowboys then triumphed once more the following season.

Johnson described the Cowboys as the 1990s’ national team.

“It took a lot of hard work, and we accomplished a lot,” he reiterated. “And when I say we, I mean Jerry and myself because we were both working around the clock.”

Jimmy Johnson: “My relationship with Jerry Jones is beyond my comprehension.”
