The couple, who announced their relationship to the public in August 2022, became engaged on Saturday in Los Angeles, an exclusive source for the singer’s representative tells PEOPLE.
After meeting Lovato in January 2022 through the collaboration on her song “Substance,” 32-year-old songwriter Lutes proposed with a custom pear-shaped diamond solitaire engagement ring handcrafted by New York City luxury jewelry emporium Material Good.
Following a “personal and intimate proposal,” Lutes and Lovato (who uses she/they pronouns) celebrated with their families at Craig’s, one of their favorite Los Angeles restaurants.
On Lovato’s 31st birthday in August, Lutes shared a carousel of sweet selfies and silly videos paying tribute to his now-fiancée.
