Rashaan Evans, a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, was dismissed from his player contract on Wednesday, one day after he was arrested in Frisco for possession of marijuana.
This past Wednesday, the Cowboys made the announcement that they would be releasing the former first-round pick.
It was confirmed to FOX 4 by the Frisco police department that Evans was taken into custody on Tuesday for possessing between two and four ounces of marijuana.
In the year 2023, he participated in nine games for the Cowboys and made a total of nine tackles.
After being released from the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles, Evans was signed by the Cowboys.
In the year 2018, the Tennessee Titans selected Evans in the first round of the draft competition.
Prior to the current season, the linebacker had previously played for the Tennessee Titans for four years and for the Atlanta Falcons for seven years.
Matt Waletzko, an offensive lineman, was activated by the Cowboys to replace Evans’ place on the roster.
“When you get down to this time of year, you start to project, especially with young players; this is the reason why you have to make difficult decisions like this,” the coach said. Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Cowboys, stated on Wednesday that this is a direct result of everyone being in good health. “We felt the depth with Wally would be beneficial.”
