Rashaan Evans, a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, was fired from his position on Wednesday morning, one day after he was arrested on accusations of drug use.
On Tuesday, December 26, Frisco police reported that Evans was detained for possession of marijuana weighing between two and four ounces.
On the official website of the Dallas Cowboys, the team made the announcement that Evans had been released and that Matt Waletzko had been activated. The announcement was made on Wednesday morning.
“Evans has been released from the club’s roster, while Waletzko has been brought back off injured reserve to take his place on the 53-man roster. According to the official website of the Cowboys, the latter has now fully healed from a shoulder ailment that caused him to miss the majority of the season. However, he is returning to assist add depth at offensive tackle.
There has been no indication that Evans’ removal from the squad and his arrest for drug possession are connected in any way.
Evans was a football player at the University of Alabama, and the Tennessee Titans selected him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Evans was currently playing for the Titans. In the month of October of this year, the Dallas Cowboys made the decision to add Evans to their practice squad.
