Review of the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e: premium EV’s smooth performance

The future for Lexus is an all-electric one, the company has made that clear.

The premium Japanese brand has announced that by 2030, all nine of its European models would be all-electric, despite parent company Toyota receiving criticism for its emphasis on different types of electricity.

The RZ 450e, the company’s first completely new EV, is driving this transition. It is intended to compete with the Mercedes-Benz EQC, BMW iX3, Audi q8 e-tron, and other electric vehicles while also serving as a showcase for cutting-edge technology, such as the revolutionary One Motion Grip steer-by-wire system.
Although the forgettable UX 300e has been available for a while, this is Lexus’s first EV. It is also the first model to be constructed on a pure EV platform and to not include a petrol or hybrid alternative.

The Toyota BZ4X shares the same platform as the RZ, but the RZ has more power and was built with greater attention to detail, giving it the appearance and feel of a really premium vehicle.

Between the SUVs with hybrid engines NX and RX is where the RZ fits into the Lexus lineup. Due to the angular body shape, slimline LED lighting, and tucked-in “spindle” grille, there is a strong family resemblance from the outside. The RZ has lower roofline and bonnet, which push the wheels deeper into the corners, providing it a more dynamic, less upright stance.
