Selena Gomez has alluded to music career retirement. The singer and actress confirmed during an appearance on the SmartLess podcast that she may resign from music following the release of her upcoming album in order to concentrate solely on acting.
“I began to enjoy music a great deal, and then touring became incredibly enjoyable,” Gomez told hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. “However, I was simultaneously filming Wizards of Waverly Place for my television show, and I couldn’t help but continue because I was having so much fun.” Nonetheless, as I age, I find myself thinking more and more, “I just want to find something to settle on.”
She further stated, “I believe I have one more album in me, but I would probably pursue an acting career.” After the presenters commended her skill and advised her not to choose between the two, she responded, “You are correct, but I will be looking forward to unwinding because I am exhausted.”
In addition, Gomez described the emotional toll her heavy burden had on her as a rising star in the industry. “One of my tours was canceled after I was admitted to a mental institution,” she recalled. “It just got to me because I enjoy my job and it provides a diversion from negative thoughts.”
She reflected on how the success of her Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place inadvertently propelled her into the music industry.
“It is safe to say that Disney operates as a machine and, in a sense, compels me to sing the theme song by requiring me to sing.” she explained. “They are adept at packaging an individual to create an entirely triple threat situation.”
She continued, “I always intended to be a singer on a full-time basis; however, that hobby apparently evolved into something else; I always wanted to be an actress.” “I may not be the most talented vocalist, but I am skilled at narrating stories and I take great pleasure in composing music.”
Gomez’s most recent release was EP Revelación, which dropped in 2021. Rare, her most recent album, was released in 2020. August saw the release of Gomez’s new single, “Single Soon.” Gomez currently stars as Mabel on Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.
