Allegations of sexual harassment have been made against John Falcicchio, a veteran assistant of Mayor Bowser who abruptly left his position last Friday.
Why it’s important Falcicchio, an indispensible assistant sometimes compared to a shadow mayor who exercised control over economic growth and developed political strategy, was the mayor’s closest confidant as she navigated a rare third term governing the nation’s capital.
According to Debra Katz, a well-known lawyer from the MeToo era, the news was sparked by a D.C. government employee who “came forward to disclose severe charges of sexual harassment” by Falcicchio.
In a statement, Katz said, “It is our understanding that this behavior has been going on for a while, and our client is completely cooperating with the inquiry, which Mayor Bowser launched right away. Cheerleaders for the Commanders and Christine Blasey Ford were among her clientele.
The allegations were not detailed but involve “unwelcome advances and sexual contact,” Katz and attorney Kayla Morin said Monday afternoon in their statement.
Attempts since Friday to reach Falccchio have been unsuccessful.
