Shawn Kemp, an ex-NBA star, was detained on suspicion of felony drive-by shooting

According to Pierce County jail records, former NBA player Shawn Kemp was detained, is now being held in custody in Tacoma, Washington, and is accused of felony charges related to a drive-by shooting.

Kemp, 53, was arrested in Tacoma on Wednesday at around 6 o’clock local time.

About 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Tacoma Police reported that an altercation between the “occupants of two cars led to bullets being fired at a parking lot” close to Tacoma Mall. Authorities added that no injuries were recorded, one automobile escaped, and a gun was found.

The event is the subject of an ongoing police investigation. The incident in the parking lot and Kemp’s arrest were captured on camera by Fox 13 Seattle.The six-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection was selected with the 17th overall choice in the 1989 NBA Draft and immediately entered the league. He played for the Seattle Supersonics for his first eight seasons. Moreover, Kemp played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Orlando Magic, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

During the course of his 14-year career, Kemp averaged 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. In 1998–99, he averaged a career-high 20.5 points per game with the Cavaliers. From 1992-1993 to 1996-1997, Kemp averaged a double-double per season.
