A man who police believe to be involved in a gunshot in Dorchester that injured two children, with one of them remaining in critical condition, was detained, according to an announcement made by Boston police on Tuesday.
At his arraignment on Tuesday in Dorchester District Court, Gianni Johnson, 24, from Dorchester will be charged with five counts of assault to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of a machine gun and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Micah Ennis, 24, who is from South Boston. Police suspect he is involved to the incident that occurred earlier. He is wanted for five counts of assault to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of a machine gun and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, police said.
According to the police, the incident took place on Sunday, September 17, just before 8:30 p.m. in the rear courtyard of 50 Ames Street in Dorchester.
There were five people hurt, three of them were adults and two of whom were children. Four of the persons sustained injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. One of the children sustained injuries that were potentially fatal and is currently in critical condition.
The mother, identified as Joanna Algarin, was said to have been cooking chicken when she “heard what sounded like fireworks,” according to the GoFundMe page. According to the information presented at the fundraiser, both of her children, Johan Howard, age 11, and Juliana Howard, age 15, were playing in the area when they heard the gunshot.
Both of them were struck by bullets as the gunfire started. According to the GoFundMe page, Juliana suffered from four bullet wounds, including one that punctured her head. The family is using the money raised through GoFundMe to pay for day-to-day living expenses, as well as medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and counselling services, “as they strive to rebuild their lives.”
It has raised $27,977, which is less than its target of $30,000.
