On Sunday night, Heron collided with Bullock’s Ford Fusion while riding with a group of riders on dirt bikes and ATVs, many of which are illegal on public roadways.
Heron’s motorcycle collided with Bullock’s vehicle at an intersection near City Hall in Philadelphia. Following an argument, Heron shattered the rear window of Bullock’s automobile. He then headbutted Bullock while wearing a helmet and aimed a pistol in Bullock’s direction before fleeing the scene.
Wednesday, the District Attorney of Philadelphia released a statement with additional information, including the charges confronting the armed 26-year-old motorcyclist:
Cody Heron (DOB 10/22/1996) was detained overnight in the Frankford neighborhood of the city and is charged with Possession of a Weapon, Endangering Another Person Recklessly, and multiple counts of Aggravated Assault. A widely viewed video of the incident, which began when Heron ran into the driver’s side door of the victim’s vehicle while traveling through Center City with a large group of motorcycle riders, shows the defendant dismounting from his motorcycle and jumping onto the rear of the victim’s car. Heron then breaks the rear window, showering the victim’s two young children, aged 2 and 5, with shattered glass. A firearm is seen falling from the defendant’s waistline before he retrieves it and threatens the victim with it in the street after she confronts him. During the confrontation, Heron headbutts her before returning to his vehicle and departing the scene.
Police claim in a press conference shared by FOX29 that they were able to locate Heron with the assistance of the public, but that it was not easy because the information that flooded social media was not wholly accurate.
It appears that Heron used a false name to confuse authorities and conceal his identity. Even though astute social media users were able to identify an account associated with the perpetrator, the name was a red herring. Philadelphia police assert that their Criminal Intelligence Unit’s social media section identified Heron by piecing together available information and viral footage of the assault. Presumably, this includes information obtained from closer, more credible sources, such as Heron’s supervisor.
Cody Heron is currently in police custody, and the district attorney’s office has stated that Heron will be prosecuted to the utmost extent of the law.
