Thousands of health care employees employed by Kaiser Permanente have gone on strike in protest of low wages and a lack of available staff

Picketing began on Wednesday morning at Kaiser Permanente hospitals as around 75,000 health care employees went on strike in Virginia, California, and three other states over salaries and staffing shortages. This strike is the latest big labour unrest in the United States It is the latest major labour unrest in the United States.

With its presence in 39 hospitals around the country, Kaiser Permanente is not only one of the largest health care providers but also an insurance provider. Nearly 13 million people are covered by the non-profit corporation that has its headquarters in Oakland, California. The company sends its clients to clinics and hospitals that it either directly operates or has arrangements with to receive medical treatment.

The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions, which collectively represents approximately 85,000 of the health system’s employees across the US, voted to authorise a strike that will last for three days in the states of California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, and for one day in the states of Virginia and Washington, District of Columbia.
