Tippett’s highlight-reel goal empowers the Flyers to a fifth consecutive victory over the Stars, 5-1.

Owen Tippett scored twice, including a highlight-reel goal late in the third period, and Scott Laughton converted a penalty kick in Thursday night’s 5-1 victory over the Dallas Stars, marking the Flyers’ fifth consecutive victory.

Cam Atkinson and Sean Walker both added goals for Philadelphia, which had 43 more shots than Dallas. Sam Ersson made 15 saves and Morgan Frost added a pair of assists for the Flyers, who ended a seven-game losing streak to the Stars.

“We had a tremendous hockey game,” said Flyers head coach John Tortorella, who is not typically one to lavish praise.

Tippett sealed the triumph with 5:30 remaining when, after passing defenseman Joel Hanley, he executed a magnificent backhand shot past Jake Oettinger’s glove side.

“It’s one of those things where you’re kind of spinning and just trying to get it on the net,” Tippett explained. “I was aware that if I could get it off my far side, it might surprise him. My primary objective was to establish an opportunity, rather than anything else.”

Tippett’s outstanding total was the subject of much discussion in the aftermath.

“I’ve seen a lot of good goals; I haven’t seen one of those in a while,” explained Tortorella.

“Any time you see him pick up the puck with speed, you’re on the edge of your seat,” Laughton commented. “It’s fun to watch.”

Tyler Seguin scored in a loss for Dallas, which marked its second consecutive setback in six games.
