The United States is looking into measures to tighten its sanctions against Iran, according to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who recognized that Tehran has not changed its behavior or policies as a result of the sanctions.

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the United States has slapped a number of restrictions on Iran, most recently targeting the country’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industry for supplying drones to Russia.
While talks to resuscitate a 2015 nuclear deal have failed, relations between Iran and the United States have gotten more strained. In response to Mahsa Amini’s death, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, on September 16th, 2016, while in police custody, the US recently placed sanctions on Iran.
Amini was arrested in Tehran by the morality police for flouting the hijab rules, which required women to entirely cover their hair and bodies, and died in custody. Anti-government demonstrations spread after her death.
