Wamiqa Gabbi used 1950s and 1960s movies as inspiration for the role she played in “Jubilee.”

The role of Wamiqa Gabbi, an actress best known for her performance in the streaming anthology series “Modern Love Bombay,” in the period drama “Jubilee” was a dream come true for her as she is a major fan of period dramas.

The actress watched classic movies from the 1950s to 1960s to prepare for her role and drew up her character.

Wamiqa explained that she seized the chance when she was offered “Jubilee” because she grew up in a family that watched black and white movies together. It presented her with a challenge as an actress in addition to being a source of intense nostalgia.

I have always like watching historical drama movies, she remarked.
She stated: “Period drama movies have always been my favorite, especially those made in the black and white era. I remember seeing these movies on Doordarshan with my complete family at one point. I leaped at the chance when Jubilee was presented to me since it reminded me of simpler times.”

She continued by saying, “I took inspiration from the actresses of the 1950s and 1960s as I watched popular movies to get into the character’s skin for “Jubilee.” To avoid coming out as a caricature, the character’s essence is all mine. Yet, many of the actresses from that time period impressed me because of the context of their body language, facial emotions, and sentence delivery.”

The series, which also stars Aparshakti Khurana, Aditi Rao Hydari, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sidhant Gupta, Nandish Sandhu, and Ram Kapoor in pivotal roles, is helmed by Vikramaditya Motwane, who is known for his extremely diverse filmography.

‘Jubilee’ will be available to stream on Prime Video from April 7.
