Dub Nation may be wondering how Klay Thompson responded to the news of Chris Paul’s arrival in the Bay, and most likely imagined the Warriors guard’s first thoughts were basketball-related.
That assumption, however, would be incorrect.
According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, Thompson reportedly disclosed the first thing he told Paul as he and Golden State colleague Steph Curry prepared to compete in “The Match” against NFL studs Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce this week.
“At least we got Chris Paul now,” Thompson added when asked about playing with great golfers like Curry and Andre Iguodala. “I’m aware that Chris may have a double-digit handicap. I told him when he joined our squad, ‘Finally, someone I can beat on the links.’ Andre and Steph are on another level.”
All kidding aside, Thompson subsequently stated that he is honored to play with Paul after the Warriors sold Jordan Poole, among other alleged assets, to the Washington Wizards last Thursday in return for the 18-year NBA veteran.
“It’s an honor to play with a player who is one of the best of your generation.” “It’s strange because we’ve had so many battles with Chris in the past, and he’s led so many teams that nearly knocked us off or did knock us off all the way back in 2014,” Thompson said, according to Slater. “I believe he will provide the calming presence and leadership that we require.” Steph and him have a long history together, since they are both from North Carolina.
“Playing with such a passer and playmaker is going to be a smooth transition for me; I’m just excited.”
Thompson is definitely delighted to team up with Paul – and defeat him on the golf field.
